What is the Allocations Process?
United Way’s annual allocations process is how United Way Partner Agencies are evaluated and how future funding decisions are made. Volunteers are key in examining agency operations, programs and finances, making recommendations that directly impact how donor dollars are invested.
Each year, the United Way Community Investment Council and United Way Board of Directors use these volunteer-led evaluations to determine funding for United Way Partner Agencies for the following year.
Why Volunteer?
By participating in the allocations process, you help ensure that donor dollars are effectively used for education, health and financial stability, directly impacting the greater St. Joseph community.
In 2024, over 170 community members from diverse backgrounds volunteered, bringing fresh perspectives and community insights to the decision-making process.
What Does an Allocations Volunteer Do?
- Serve on a subcommittee to review two to three United Way Partner Agencies.
- Dedicate approximately 10-15 hours over two months (April-May).
- Attend five to six meetings, including agency presentations and assessments.
- Choose from daytime or evening subcommittee options.
- Learn more about how local nonprofit agencies operate and help shape funding recommendations.
