Community Partners

United Way of Greater St. Joseph has a long and effective tradition of delivering important human care services through partner agencies.  This year United Way welcomes a new agency, Community Missions Corporation, which provides transitional housing for homeless men.

Funding recommendations for partner agencies are made annually through a citizens’ review process (see accountability).  In addition, United Way’s Community Investment Fund offers a way for partner agencies and other local not-for-profits to apply for funding to deal with emergency situations or to meet emerging needs.

United Way also sponsors a number of community initiatives.  These approaches work to address identified community needs or to prevent future problems.  By emphasizing cooperative efforts, the initiatives make optimal use of limited resources while producing some dramatic results—such as contributing to a more than 50-percent reduction in the high school dropout rate and to an over 800-percent increase in the number of childcare centers that are accredited.
