Volunteer Leaders

When the predecessor organization to United Way of Greater St. Joseph was founded over 90 years ago, community religious and business leaders put an emphasis on accountability. That tradition continues to this day. Each succeeding generation has provided the leadership to guide United Way’s development—and demand its effectiveness—through a myriad of social service issues.

Members of the United Way board are elected at the organization’s annual meeting.  They serve three-year terms, with one-third of the terms ending each year.  No board member my serve more than two full terms without at least a year’s absence from the board.   The goal is to sustain vitality and to open board membership to a broad spectrum of the community.  This year’s board includes members engaged in small business, financial services, major industries, medicine, law, education, labor, media, civic service, and community voluntarism.
