ABOUT US: Improving lives in our community.

United Way of Greater St. Joseph delivers vital basic services while addressing long-term solutions.

United Way of Greater St. Joseph serves as a vital force for improving both individual lives and the entire community. Founded in 1916 as the St. Joseph Federation for Charity and Philanthropy, United Way today provides funding to 18 local human service agencies and sponsors a number of community initiatives, including Success By 6®, Profit in Education©, and Leadership St. Joseph. The programs and initiatives supported by United Way not only address a wide variety of needs in the community—from childcare to mobile meals for the elderly—but also work to prevent future problems. Information on the number of people served and program results can be found in the section on focus areas.

United Way of Greater St. Joseph is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The tradition of accountability centers on a citizens’ review process to ensure that donors receive the best value for their contributions. Strong volunteer involvement also makes it possible to keep costs low, with over 91 cents of every donated dollar going to the agencies and programs that provide direct services.
